As the join Ellen for this final epic ending to what I can only describe as fabulous ghost story things just appear to crescendo into a finale of major proportions.
Her friend Eric is still travelling around UK doing his work as a medium whilst Ellen once again become engulfed by ghosts threatening her life.
What a fantastic ending to such a tale, this author made the hair on the back of my neck stand on end. I can only say what a brilliant end...

This review is from: Like Hell Itself (Kindle Edition)
Not my usual read, but have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this ghost story. I connected with the characters immediately and was pleased to hear there is a second book, which is great news as I'm not ready to say goodbye to Ellen just yet. Diane, you are a great story teller.

5* REVIEW

This review is from: Like Hell Itself 2: Constance (Kindle Edition)
I love this sequel just as much as book one. This one is spooky and at times I felt my heart race. I was so afraid that Ellen might actually be killed and/or lose Graeme, her fiancé. I turned the pages as fast as I could, hoping she'd get the answer Constance wanted so she'd stop tormenting her. Constance had no problem causing others pain either. She's one frustrating ghost.

I don't like to spoil a book for others. Therefore, you'll have to read this wonderful book to find out if Ellen gets married and lives happily ever after.

A true tale from the past!

Just felt this short story was worth sharing...

THE GOLDEN SUMMER

ALBERT WELCH – HORDEN (1925-2000)

Perhaps everyone has a special time, an outstanding year, or period in their lives. 1947 was such a time for me. In my opinion, the most splendid summer in the last sixty years, maybe, for a lot longer than that. Important things also happened before the year ended, but I would like to dwell on a day early in the summer, it was Whit Monday. I had met my future in-laws and they invited me to join them on their annual excursion, on the said Monday. Doreen would be going, I couldn’t refuse.

At 10.00 am we left the railway station. It seemed as if the whole village was on the move. The congregation chattered and laughed, till at last the train appeared around the bend and pulled to a halt. The doors opened and everyone moved forward. It appeared as if there was no accommodation, people were already standing before anyone had got aboard. Miraculously, as if by magic, the platform was deserted, everyone had somehow boarded. The whistle blew and off we went. Blackhall was another stop only a couple of miles further. Unbelievably, everyone waiting there somehow boarded and we were off to the seaside. It was not a long journey in distance, but it was a very slow transport.

Redcar beckoned and eventually we alighted to a cloudless sky, a burning sun, and the sea air. I had promised Doreen fish and chips in a restaurant and as it was already 12 o’clock we proceeded to the sea front. Alas the diners were full and queues were formed outside. We hadn’t spare time to spare, so I must do something. Standing outside this diner, I noticed people were let in and no one departed.

“Let’s look round the side,” I said.

The satisfied customers were leaving from another door round the corner.

I said, “The next that come out, we’ll go in.”

“No,” she said, “That’s wrong.

As the door opened again, I pulled her in, climbed a flight of stairs, and entered. A table at the window was vacant. It had a magnificent view of the blue and expanding North Sea. Not a word was spoken till the waitress came and took our orders. North Sea cod and chips, a bit of an adventure, yes illicit, but very special. As I said there was a timetable, we were going to the races. Everyone would meet at 1.30 outside of the stadium, and spend the afternoon together.

After leaving the café, we joined the throng walking the seafront. We gazed at the crowded beach, the swimmers and paddlers, the kids riding the donkeys, the swings and roundabouts, while the sun blazed down.

Half past, we met and entered the track, found accommodation on the grass and sat chattering, till the racehorses appeared. It was my initiation to this entertainment and I was quite taken. The jockeys’ colours, the magnificent animals, the excitement and the shouts of bookmakers amounted to a great atmosphere. I’m afraid I became hooked. After a couple of races, Doreen’s mother said we'll have something to eat in half an hour and off I strolled. Another race passed and still I was absorbed in the surroundings. Time stood still. My friends would wonder where I was.

“You’ve been a long time,” said Doreen.

“I’ll have a piece of pie,” I replied.

“You’ll be lucky. I’ve had yours. Serves you right for neglecting me.”

Not to worry, I was having the time of my life, but as always things come to an end.

Slowly the crowds drifted away. All roads led to the station. We would try to get seats for the return, especially for the ladies. It had been a tiring, but special day. Arriving home, we sat around, had tea and discussed Whit Monday. Later on, Doreen and I went down to the local and had a drink. Mostly we wanted to be on our own, discussion was in the air. What was decided on has lasted for 52 years and discussion still takes place. Yes 1947 was very special, the memories very vivid. In every aspect it remains the year of my existence.

Diane: Can you tell me something about yourself?

Rebecca: My husband and I wrote a screenplay years ago, and it wasn’t until 2012 that I self-published my first book,

Messages from Henry. I have since self-published five other books: Rag Doll, Jumper, Where Love Takes You, Jumper Bounces Back, and Jumper Meets Bouncy.

Diane: It’s easy to see you have been a very busy author, Rebecca. So, what inspired you to write children’s books?

Rebecca: I never really planned on writing children’s picture books. The idea for Jumper came about when a red beach ball blew out of a bin full of balls, in front of a general store. As my husband drove down the road, the red ball followed us. All the way home my husband told me what the ball might do, see, and say. I didn’t use any of his ideas. I wrote my own version weeks later.

Diane: Having had the pleasure of reading the Jumper series, it is easy to see why children enjoy your stories. Can I ask what marketing technique has worked the best for you?

Rebecca: I’ve gotten the best results by chatting with people on Twitter, and meeting the public. I’ve sold more of my children’s paperback books out of my vehicle than anywhere else.

Diane: Would you tell me something about your latest book?

Rebecca: Jumper Meets Bouncy is the third book in my series of children’s books. I loved writing this book for many reasons. One of the reasons is that one of the protagonists, three-year-old Tony no longer talks baby talk. And with Jumper, a red beach ball, meeting and talking to another ball; I had a lot of fun! Haha! Jumper has a girlfriend.

Diane: Sounds like quite an adventure. I’d be interested to know how long it took you to write it?

Rebecca: I’d say it took me a little over one month to write and edit Jumper Meets Bouncy.

Diane: Goodness, you must have been totally committed to writing this children’s book to do it so quickly. Can I ask you about your writing process and do you have a set time for writing?

Rebecca: I have a pad of paper and pen next to my bed. I also carry a pad of paper when I leave home. I wake up all hours of the night and write down story ideas. As far as actually typing my stories, I do so all hours of the night and day.

Diane: Did you need to do any research, or was there anything else of interest that was involved in creating this story?

Rebecca: The research I’ve done for the children’s series involved questioning parents on Twitter, and googling children’s favorite games, favorite toys, and favorite outdoor activities.

Diane: Interesting… And what do you think young readers will come away with when they have finished reading your children’s book series?

Rebecca: I think children’s imagination will be enhanced. I doubt they’ll ever look at their beach balls as just balls ever again. Many parents and grandparents have told me that their children and grandchildren now want a red beach ball. They also want birthday parties just like Emily and Tony had. Oh! And they want Jumper on television. That just might happen one day, but I’m not holding my breath.

Diane: A big thank you for sharing a bit about yourself with me and my readers. I also wish you every success with this new and exciting Children’s Book.

I want to thank you for having me on your blog. I’ve enjoyed answering your questions. I think you’re a brilliant author, and I wish you the best!

Here’s a short excerpt from Jumper Meets Bouncy:

Boomf! We bounced right down into the panda’s habitat, and both of us ended up next to one another by some rocks. Emily’s ball looked at me with fear in her eyes.

“Hello. My name is Jumper. What’s your name?”

She batted her long lashes and looked over at me.

“Hello, they call me The Beach Ball, but Bouncy Brianna is my real name.

“I’ll call you Bouncy for short if you don’t mind.”

“I don’t mind at all. I see ‘Tony’ written on you.”

“Yeah, Tony insisted that his mother write his name on me. I hope somebody gets us out of here soon. That might be a baby panda, but I saw her teeth and claws. This could be dangerous.”

Bouncy’s eyes filled with tears, and I wished that I hadn’t said that.
